"The Gift of the Magi" Irony Paragraph

In "The Gift of the Magi," O. Henry uses irony to make the story realistic. For example,Jim sold his pocket watch to buy his wife combs.Della had already cut her hair. This shows that this is ironic because jim expected della to have her hair. This also shows that Sometimes things don't work out as planned. In addition, Della sold her hair to buy a watch chain for her husband. He had already sold his pocket watch. This shows that this is ironic because Della expected Jim to have his watch to use the chain, but he had just sold it. This also shows that this is realistic because this could really happen in real life. In conclusion, things don't happen the way people plan.
